The process to apply for PAN Card Online


PAN Card is one of the very important documents which every Indian citizen needs to hold. It allows them to pay taxes or file IT returns and serves as identity proof while applying for any other government documents. The process to apply for a PAN Card is very easy. Any individual can apply for his/her PAN card either online or offline. To make an application for your PAN Card, taxpayers need to fill a special form along with the required details.

Steps to Help You Know How You Can Apply for a Pan Card Online

The whole procedure to apply for a Pan Card Online is very simple. You need to follow the below-mentioned steps to proceed with the application-

Step 1: To apply for a Pan card online, you need to visit NSDL's website where you need to fill the required information.
Step 2: Now, you need to click on the option 'Apply online for a PAN' present on the left-hand corner, as you are a new applicant.
In the drop-down, you can select one from the three options which are:
  • New PAN – Indian Citizen
  • New PAN – Foreign Citizen
  • Changes or Correction on Existing PAN/Re-print of PAN card.
Step 3: Now, you need to select the category from 'Category Section' which includes the following options such as-
  • Individual
  • Company
  • Associate of Individuals
  • Hindu Undivided Family
  • Trust
  • Limited Liability
  • Partnership
  • Local Authority
Step 4: After choosing your category, you need to fill the details in the required category. You need to mention information such as title, last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, contact number and email address for these sections in your PAN card application.
Step 5: After providing the required information, you will have to re-type a Captcha code and then click on the 'Submit' button.
Step 6: After submitting the information, the website provides you with a 15-digit acknowledgment number that you need to take out the print for your records.

Offline Process to Apply for a PAN Card

  • You need to download the form 49 A or 49 AA from the official website of the Income Tax Department of India or you can also visit any of the Income Tax Pan service Centre which is managed by UTI Infrastructure and Services Limited (UTIISL).
  • After downloading your PAN Card application form, fill-up the form with all sections in the 08 pages.
  • After filling up the application form, you need to send a demand draft of Rs. 107 including tax along with the application form. An additional amount of Rs. 887 will be charged if it needs to be sent overseas.
  • Make sure that form must be sent along with a copy of your address proof and identity proof.
